How to find a good domestic cleaner?

by Janine, Jan 2022

Choosing to engage with a cleaner or cleaning service may seem like a simple decision, but ensuring you find a good domestic cleaner can be a tricky task!

There are many different types of cleaner you could choose:

  • Solo cleaner who has their own local round
  • Contract cleaning company with employed staff
  • Cleaning agency with self-employed staff
  • Live-in housekeepers
  • ‘Nannys’ who offer cleaning
  • A cleaning team who rotate between properties

But how do you know what the best option is for you?

Once you’ve decided what type of cleaning you require (housekeeping, nanny who cleans, domestic cleaner etc) you require and the frequency (weekly, fortnightly, monthly etc), choosing the ideal supplier is a little easier.

For example, if you’re looking for someone to provide daily cleaning, you may choose to engage with a solo cleaner or even employ someone yourself. Or if you’re looking for multiple rental properties to be cleaned, perhaps a cleaning team is more useful.

Here at Well Polished, we’re an introductory cleaning agency which means we work with you to find the best possible cleaner for your requirements.

An agency like us will:

  • Recruit a number of experienced cleaners in the area
  • Thoroughly vet, reference check and ‘right to work’ check each registered cleaner
  • Discuss each client’s specific requirements including cleaning preferences, property details, preferred days and times etc
  • We will then assign the ideal cleaner to match each client’s requirements

What if you choose the wrong cleaner?

You can do all your research and think you’ve chosen the best match for you – but after the first clean, you may find that you’re not happy with the cleaner. If you’ve gone direct with a cleaner, you will need to let them know that you weren’t happy with the service. Whilst it can be tempting to cancel straight away, we would always recommend discussing your issues and what aspects of the clean you weren’t happy with – and giving the cleaner a chance to put things right.

If you go to an agency, things will be a bit different! Whilst we do everything we can to ensure the cleaner we assign is perfectly matched to your individual preferences, we don’t always get it right first time. However, we would take all your criticism and feedback on board and discuss this with the cleaner on your behalf. One of the benefits of using an agency is that you don’t need to have the awkward conversation directly – we can do this for you. Equally, if you decide that you’d prefer to switch cleaners, we can arrange this for you… as an agency, we will have a number of registered cleaners in your area.
