Surprising Remedies for Carpet Stainsby Lisa Salisbury, Oct 2018
Who wouldn’t rather use their beer for cleaning as opposed to drinking it? Pour a small amount onto the carpet and rub it lightly into the stain. You may need to do it a few times to remove all traces of the stain.
When you decide that it’s finally time to grow a beard, put your shaving cream to good use by cleaning up the carpet with it. Cover the stain with a paper towel, pat the stain with a wet sponge, put a small amount of shaving cream on the stain and wipe clean with a damp sponge.
This one is more of a catalyst for existing cleaning methods. Salt enhances their effectiveness. For example, if you spill red wine, you probably already know to put white wine on it while the stain is still wet. Following this, clean the stain with a sponge and cold water. Then sprinkle salt on the stain and wait 10 minutes before hovering up the excess.
This works best for stains whose origin you aren’t familiar with. Is it blood, wine or red marker? You don’t know and you don’t care; you just want it gone. Mix a teaspoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a little bit of cream of tartar and a small dab of non-gel toothpaste. Rub this paste on the stain with a cloth and rinse.
This is best utilised when your pet has an accident, either out of excitement or desperation. Immediately cover with a paper towel, and then soak with club soda. Cover the stain with another paper towel and scrub with diluted carpet shampoo.
