Our cleaners are generally so busy that they can’t always find time to go to the gym – but they don’t need to worry, cleaning burns off more calories than you realise!

Here are some chores and the amount of calories you can burn off whilst doing them.  (Based on a 40 year old woman, weighing 63 kilos and 1.70 metres tall, doing 30 minutes of each activity!  If you weigh more, you will burn off more, if you weigh less, you will burn off less!)

HOOVERING

Can you believe half an hour of hoovering can burn off 96 calories, more if you want to include the stairs as well!   Great for toning your arms!

CLEANING THE BATHROOM

This will burn as many calories as ballroom dancing for 20 minutes, and help improve your flexibility as well burning off 79 calories.

DUSTING

Dusting burns off more calories than most cleaning tasks, and between reaching for the cobwebs and bending to wipe the skirting board, you can burn off 109 calories and work out your abs at the same time!

CLEANING THE WINDOWS

Another great one for toning the arms, with a half hour window cleaning session burning off 79 calories and being the equivalent to 10 minutes on the rowing machine.
