ONE SMALL STEP FOR MANby Julie Kempson, Jul 2019
Almost 50 years ago, on 20th July 1969, the America´s Apollo 11 landed on the moon with Commander Neil Armstrong and pilot Buzz Aldrin at the helm.
In one of the most momentous events in history, Commender Neil Armstrong became the first man to ever walk on the moon commenting “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”- an event witnessed by around 650 million people from all over the world.
BUT DID IT REALLY HAPPEN?
There is lots of proof that the moon landing did actually happen, but even now, 50 years on there are still people (often called conspiracy theorists) who firmly believe that it did not and that it was hoax set up by Nasa.
Some of the common points that come up are listed below.
THE WAVING FLAG
Some conspiracy theorists say that if there is no air on the moon, there would be no wind, so it would be impossible for the American flag to be waving and rippling as it is seen to do in the photos. However the truth is that although it looks like it is moving, it actually is not. When it was stuck in the ground, it would have been disturbed and kept that bent shape.
FOOTPRINTS ON THE MOON´S SURFACE
From space, it is still possible to see where the different Apollo missions have landed. Footprints have not been disturbed and still remain visible as there is no wind, rain or other surface activity on the moon which would erase them.
As solid pieces of evidence go – moon rock is one of them. The astronauts returned with more than 382 kilos of moon rocks which have been tested throughout the decades and confirmed to be from the moon
EQUIPMENT LEFT BEHIND
Some of the scientific instruments which were used by the astronauts to learn more about the moon where left behind.
What do you think? Do you have a theory?
