London Marathon Dayby Julie Kempson, Apr 2019
This Sunday 28th April 2019 is London Marathon Day! I don’t expect you will see any of the Well Polished Crawley staff taking place but we do give a big shout out to anyone who is and especially if they are raising money for charity at the same time.
The marathon covers 26.2 miles and is mostly a flat course around the River Thames. Runners can enjoy many of the London’s iconic sites including the Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, Tower of London, London Eye, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace finishing in The Mall alongside St Jame’s Palace.
The first Marathon in London was held on 29 March 1981 when more than 20,000 people applied to run, with 6,747 being accepted and of those, 6,255 crossed the finishing line at Constitution Hill. As a race it has grown over the years in popularity, with 414,168 applicants for this year’s race being the biggest yet!
Many famous faces also take part – in particular Sir Mo Farah who is a regular – as well for this year, Chris Evans and an 8 member team of famous EastEnders faces running for Dementia Revolution in support of fellow EastEnders Barbara Windsor.

Good luck everyone!
