8 COMMON OVERLOOKED HOUSEHOLD CHORESby Julie Kempson, Sep 2020
Jackie, one of our very experienced cleaners here at Well Polished Crawley shares with us the 8 household chores most often overlooked, and offers her advice on how to best clean them.
As autumn draws in, also in come the spiders weaving their webs. To remove cobwebs use a feather duster, however a clean broom works just as well. Ideally this would be a fortnightly task.
Something very often missed are lampshades. The fabric ones get very dusty, but can be easily cleaned with the vacuum attachment or stiff brush. Wipe plastic shades over with a damp cloth and glass shades will sparkle again after being washed in hot soapy water. This is a monthly job.
These get grubby very easily, however a quick wipe with anti bacterial cleaner on a weekly basis will keep germs at bay.
Another overlooked item is interior doors. A brush along the top and any ridges will remove the dust, then wipe down with anti bacterial spray, paying special attention to the handles and the surrounding area, done weekly to keep on top of it.
BANNISTERS AND POSTS
How many times do we touch the bannisters and posts? A weekly clean with an anti bacterial product will not only keep them hygenic but will also brighten your hallway.
This one is a major miss! Remote controls require at the minimum a weekly wipe with antibacterial spray or wipes to keep those germs away.
BEHIND THE SOFA CUSHIONS
It’s really amazing how much dust gathers here. Use the vacuum hose for fabric sofas and either a microfibre cloth or specialist leather wipes on leather sofas.
A quick weekly wipe with a feather duster or broom, followed by a monthly wipe down with a clean cloth will keep your skirting boards nice and clean.
