Post Bonfire Night Clean up

by Karen Jenner, Nov 2018

Bonfire night is a very fun time of year, but all good things must come to an end. And with the end of bonfire night comes the big clean up. One would be forgiven for thinking that with the celebrations taking place predominately outside, the clean up operation would be a simple one. However, there is a lot more to it than you might think.

You can actually recycle much of the waste your bonfire produces. Ash should be kept and mixed with soil into flowerbeds and other things growing in your garden. Ash can also be used as a means by which to melt ice on your driveway. Make sure to let the ash cool before collecting it though!

The soot that is produced can be cleaned up with a hoover usually, or by scrubbing with a sponge. The best way to remove soot from your grass is to allow it to cool and sweep it with a broom.

Mud is something of an inevitability after an event that takes place outside. If it has gotten onto your carpet, allow it to dry and hoover it up. For any stains that remain, mix a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with warm water, spray and dab with a cloth.
