Mammothfest – Brighton’s Biggest Rock and Metal Festivalby Kerrie Hawkins, Sep 2018
Picture your perfect day in Brighton. Odds are it includes a visit to the Royal Pavilion, a stroll along the pebble beach and a portion of fish and chips on the pier. Odds are it didn’t include extreme moshing, defeanening music and rapid movements of the head and neck that could leave you sore for the next couple of days.
However, in just over a month, metalheads from far and wide will be travelling to Mammothfest in Brighton: a three-day annual event hosted mainly at the Green Door Store in which local bands perform for audiences of fast paced shows for fans of heavy rock.
The ticket price is £59 for the weekend, but purchasing one may not be necessary as everyone within a 100-mile radius will be able to hear, probably.
Brighton has always been something of a musicians Shangri-La, producing groups such as indie rock quintet The Kooks, folk group Levellers and heavy metal giants Architects.
As well as producing musical talent, Brighton seems to attract it too. Famous former residents of the city include Sir Paul McCartney and Adele, the latter of which has been said to enjoy how deep the sea is near the Birling Gap (perfect for rolling in!).
With the line-up still to be announced, keep the weekend of the 5th of October free if you fancy a beer while listening to screeching guitar riffs and beefy drum solos.
And don’t forget your trusty tube of deep heat; your neck is going to need it
