This year’s Well Polished ambassador is Jackie Macdonald – the owner of Well Polished Bishops Stortford. Jackie’s impressive growth in 2016 saw her take the crown for ‘Franchisee of the Year’ AND her excellent attention to detail gave her the ‘Customer Service Award’ for 2016 as well. In this blog post, we ask Jackie some interesting questions about what she attributes her success to and how she really feels about her Well Polished franchise.
- What made you decide you wanted to own a franchise?
I worked within the business for a while and could see the enormous potential there. I have worked many years as an employee and knew I could do just as well running my own business. I also wanted the freedom of choosing my own hours. As a Franchise I knew I would have the support behind me and this made the transition much easier as I wasn’t alone in my plight, I had expert advice to hand and this proved invaluable and has given me the confidence to reach much higher levels than I could ever have imagined.
- What’s the hardest part of running your Well Polished franchise?
I would say the initial first months in starting the business and getting over the fear of feeling the responsibility that comes with it, something most of us are not used to. In time this becomes much easier as you gain experience and learn how to deal with every eventuality. You are never alone and every one of us has felt this way at some point.
- What’s your favourite part of running your Well Polished franchise?
The enormous pride you feel when are faced with a challenge and you manage sort everything out regardless of how impossible it may have seemed. It’s the confidence it gives you as you realise how capable you are of making this work and the rewards it brings. The real benefit is that you can work from anywhere, I recently signed two new clients over the phone whilst shopping in IKEA so you aren’t confined to the office. The best bonus is the realisation that you are the boss.
- What do you think makes Well Polished different in comparison to other companies offering cleaning franchises?
They are affordable, very approachable, personal and proactive. There is always someone at the end of the line to offer advice and support whenever needed. Pure and simply, it is a model that works.
- What do you attribute your amazing success to?
Hard work, determination, enjoying the challenge and the great relationships I have built with my clients and cleaners.
- Why do you think clients choose to sign up with Well Polished Bishops Stortford, and not one of your competitors?
Well Polished offer a very personal service. I am simply myself, I don’t hard sell, I take into consideration which cleaner would be suited to each client as all have different requirements. The overall approach is very personal and friendly and clients feel more relaxed with that approach.
- If you could go back and give yourself some advice when you first started WP, what would it be?
Don’t panic and give up at the first hurdle. There will be good and bad days and some things are out of our hands. Running a business has it’s challenges as does any business but most importantly, believe in yourself , give it your best shot and trust that all will work out in the end .
- What would you say to someone thinking of buying a Well Polished franchise and following in your footsteps?
Go for it. Be patient, start small, think big! Don’t let fear stop you. As the old adage says….. ‘Do what you’ve always done, get what you’ve always got’ You have to take that leap of faith if you want to move forward.
