10 Decluttering Tips!by Janine, Jun 2017
Ever feel like you’re drowning in too much stuff but still can’t bring yourself to get rid of those boxes of stuff that you haven’t opened since you moved in?! Fear not, help is at hand. Thanks to Stylist.co.uk, we have ten top tips for regaining control over your home.
1. MAKE A LIST:
It’s important to start with a goal in mind and put a plan together. Write down the areas you want to declutter and switch your focus from room to room.
2. ASK YOURSELF: DOES THIS HAVE A FUNCTION?
Be honest with yourself about what you use around the house.
3. SELL STUFF ONLINE.
Why not make some money out of your unwanted clutter?
4. DECLUTTER THE WARDROBE.
Have you worn it in the past 6 months? Does it even look good on? BIN IT!
5. USE THE RULE OF FIVE.
Everyone you clean a room, get rid of 5 things that you don’t use.
6. TAKE PHOTOS OF NOSTALGIC ITEMS.
If you have an emotional attachment to something (think old toys etc) but really can’t see a use for them, take a photo so the memory remains.
7. ORGANISE YOUR MAKEUP BAG.
We know it’s hard to throw away make-up that you’ve spent hard earned cash on, but why are you holding onto that foundation that’s two shades too dark!?
8. DECLUTTER YOUR KITCHEN.
“The size of my coffee-cup shelf determines how many coffee cups I get to keep. If I have more coffee cups than will fit on that shelf, then I have too many coffee cups. I don’t need to build a new shelf, I need to get rid of coffee cups. The same goes for plates, glasses, pots and pans.”

9. TIDY YOUR DESK SPACE.
Take everything off your desk and out the drawers and put it all in a box. After a few days, the things that didn’t come back out the box are the things you didn’t need to use!
10. SIMPLIFY YOUR PERSONAL LIFE.
Decluttering your diary is also essential for simplifying your life. Reduce your number of commitments and say no to non-essential things.
